First theme: 

Is it possible to accompany the young towards an integral spirituality through the main characteristics of the present day expression of religiosity or spirituality? If so, how?

As educators of the young, we have to take up the challenge upon ourselves to accompany the young towards an integral spirituality through the main characteristics of the present day expression of religiosity or spirituality. The following steps are proposed:

1. Build up friendly rapport with the young.
2. Educate the young to a proper and judicious use of mass media.
3. Present the Gospel message in a way that is attractive to them.
4. Appreciate the good qualities that are seen in them.
5. Instil in the young the sense of solidarity and universal brotherhood.
6. Inculcate in the young appreciation for values, especially towards commitment and loyalty.
7. Introduce them to team work, group prayer service.
8. Educate them to responsible adulthood.
9. Help them form their conscience following the Gospel principles.
10. Encourage them to take up leadership roles.

Second theme:

Why there is an inhibition in most the parents towards the expressions of modern culture and the expressions of religiosity?

1. There is a cultural gap between parents and children. While most parents were educated in the old school, their children live in a digital world. Values are not viewed from the same perspective and religion seems to make no sense to many young people.
2. Most parents are apprehensive about anything that influences the growth of their children, be it pop culture, mass media, New Age.
3. Parents must be made aware that for a healthy emotional, psychological, social, intellectual growth, the child must be given the needed space to exercise their freedom.

Reflexión:

Estamos en una sociedad en constante cambio, donde las ofertas y las oportunidades que puede tener un joven se han ampliado respecto a lo que se podía tener hace unos años. Antes esta realidad que se moldea, se transforma, encontramos diferentes realidades juveniles que se adaptan de diferentes modos según el contexto social en el que están viviendo.
En América, concretamente Bolivia o México existe una realidad juvenil que a pesar de los cambios sociales tienen ciertas inquietudes religiosas, y sobre todo se hace partícipe en una religiosidad popular: procesiones, visitas a los santuarios marianos, festividad del día de los difuntos. Aunque se va observando que poco a poco va entrando en las grandes ciudades el tema la secularización mientras que en los pueblos se mantiene el tema de la tradición.
Ante esta diversidad, los jóvenes buscan tener su propia identidad, se ve de un modo claro con el tema de la música. No existe un estilo musical, existen muchos estilos y algunos de ellos son un reflejo de cómo los jóvenes se ven ante la sociedad en la que viven.

Por otro lado, en Europa la realidad juvenil tiene otra tendencia. Adaptada a la realidad social en la que están viviendo. Desde hace unos años, se ha pasado de una sociedad religiosa a una sociedad laica y esto se nota en el mundo juvenil.
Hay una pérdida de creencia en las antiguas instituciones sociales, eclesiales. No se ven como algo que refleje la realidad cambiante en la que se está viviendo y por lo tanto, buscan nuevas experiencias.
La religiosidad se vive de un modo privado, no existen grandes manifestaciones religiosas juveniles públicas. Se crea un Dios hecho a mi medida, según mis necesidades e inquietudes.

Al mismo tiempo surgen nuevas formas de expresar un nuevo sentimiento:
- La necesidad de trabajar el tema de la interioridad, la espiritualidad. En los colegios se ofrece la posibilidad de trabajar y educar la interioridad pero siempre desde una perspectiva de interioridad sin transcendencia.
- Por otro lado, surgen pequeños grupos religiosos en línea neo-catecumenal.

• A los jóvenes: Viendo esta realidad social, en la que estamos en un cambio constante, en la que cada uno percibimos la realidad de una manera ¿De qué manera concibes a Dios? ¿Qué necesitas para poder vivirlo y expresarlo en la sociedad que estás viviendo?
• A los padres: Si la experiencia de Dios es algo positivo para vuestra familia ¿cómo podéis vivir, con vuestros hijos, esa experiencia de Dios, teniendo en cuenta la gran variedad de experiencias que le ofrece la sociedad?

TA2160 Spiritualità Giovanile / Youth Spirituality : A class blog

This semester at the Salesian Pontifical University, I will be offering a double course in Youth Spirituality. One section is designed for students of Spiritual Theology, and this section meets three times a week (5 ECTS); the other section is reserved for students of Pastoral Theology, it that section meets twice a week (3 ECTS). The Spiritual Theology section is listed as TA2160 - Youth Spirituality. The Pastoral Theology section is listed as TA2161 - Youth Spirituality.

Are you confused? Yes, well, so was I when the institute directors informed me last night. Hopefully, the blog will make things clear.

Both courses attempt to address these issues: 1. forms and contexts of spiritual animation among young people in today’s environment; 2. anthropological analyses of the new interest in spirituality; 3. what is meant by “youth spirituality”; 4. the coordinates of Christian spirituality in the context of today's culture, particularly as it impacts youth and young adults; 5. stories of life and spirituality: issues of religious psychology of the spiritual journey.

Nel corso si affrontano queste tematiche: 1) forme e luoghi di proposta “spirituale” ai giovani in contesto odierno; 2) analisi antropologica del nuovo interesse per la spiritualità; 3) che cosa si intende per “spiritualità giovanile”; 4) le coordinate della spiritualità cristiana nel contesto della cultura odierna formulate in vista del mondo giovanile; 5) storie di vita e spiritualità: aspetti di psicologia religiosa del cammino spirituale.
